Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer just a futuristic concept, it's woven into our everyday lives—especially in business. When I talk about AI, the biggest tool that comes to mind is ChatGPT. I treat ChatGPT like an additional team member or even a family member—a resource I can consult for insights, ideas, and solutions. Think of it as someone with the collective knowledge of humanity at your fingertips.
But here's the real question: Are you using AI to its full potential in your business? Or is it still sitting on the back burner, waiting for you to tap into its capabilities?
The Debate: Is Using ChatGPT Cheating?
One common concern I hear is that using tools like ChatGPT feels like cheating. But let's challenge that idea for a second. Do you consider using a calculator cheating? We’ve all used one to handle complex calculations, especially when time or accuracy is critical. In the same way, I see ChatGPT as a calculator for words. It doesn’t replace your creativity—it amplifies it.
Take my nine-year-old son as an example. He loves writing rap lyrics. When he found out about ChatGPT, he asked it to write raps for him. Sure, ChatGPT can create some pretty decent lyrics, but I told him to use his own creativity first. Why? Because you need to develop your own voice before you lean on AI. Once you’ve built that foundation, AI becomes a tool to enhance your work, not replace it.
The Real Power of Prompts
Here’s the key to unlocking the full potential of AI: it’s all about the prompts. You only get as much value out of ChatGPT as the quality of the prompts you feed it. That’s where creativity shifts. The skill today isn’t just about writing; it’s about asking the right questions and giving the right context to get the best output from AI.
For example, in my business, I use ChatGPT for a variety of tasks—especially for marketing copy. Whether it’s crafting an Instagram post or putting together an email campaign, I set up ChatGPT to act as my virtual marketing consultant. I feed it specific details about my business, like the name, our services (Zeus’s Closet is like a tattoo shop for your clothes), and any specific frameworks I want it to follow, such as the "pain-agitate-solution" method. By doing this, ChatGPT knows exactly what role it’s playing, and the content it creates is tailored to my needs.
Balancing Creativity with Efficiency
What I love most about using AI is the time it saves me. Instead of spending hours writing marketing copy from scratch, I can get ChatGPT to create something within minutes—and most of the time, it’s even better than what I would’ve written myself. But here's the catch: just like anything in life, you still have to put in the work. You can’t just copy and paste whatever ChatGPT generates. I always massage the text, make sure it’s in my voice, and ensure it’s aligned with my brand.
There’s also an element of responsibility. In one instance, a client replied to my email with a response that seemed a bit too polished. It was clear it came straight out of ChatGPT, and it felt off. The lesson? Always review and personalize the output, or it might backfire.
How AI Is Reshaping Business
AI is rapidly becoming an integral part of every tool we use. From Canva to email marketing platforms, AI features are popping up everywhere. In fact, I even use AI like MidJourney to generate custom images for my emails and blogs. AI is here to stay, and it's only going to become more embedded in our day-to-day operations.
The bottom line is this: AI isn’t here to replace us—it’s here to help us. If used correctly, it can be a game-changer for your business. But it all starts with the foundation. Master the fundamentals first, and then use AI to take things to the next level. So, are you ready to embrace AI in your business? If you haven’t already, now’s the time.
Remember, the future isn’t waiting for you to catch up—it’s already here. Let’s start using AI as the powerful tool it was designed to be.
