You are more powerful than you think.
In fact, the choices you make today could one day mean the difference between living an ordinary lifespan… or seeing the year 2150 in great health and vitality. Sound far-fetched? Well, the science says otherwise.
I recently had a fascinating conversation on my podcast with my co-host Justin King about a concept called longevity escape velocity—and it might just change the way you think about your future.
If you’ve never heard of it, longevity escape velocity is the idea that with each passing year, advances in medicine and technology will increase our average lifespan faster than time is taking it away. In other words, for every year you live, science could soon be giving you back more than a year of life.
Imagine hitting a point where your aging slows down or practically stops—where your body is maintained at a youthful “base level” for decades or even centuries. Crazy? Not so much. In fact, some experts believe we’re only a few years away from this becoming reality.
The Role of A.I. in Longevity
When most people hear “A.I.” these days, they think about ChatGPT or cool new business tools. But A.I.’s potential in the health and longevity space is even more exciting.
Doctors have been trying to cure diseases like cancer for decades. The challenge? Human brains can only process so much data and test so many possibilities. A.I., on the other hand, can analyze massive data sets at speeds we can’t match—and generate new insights faster than any human team.
According to futurist Ray Kurzweil—who has been right on 86% of his predictions—A.I. will soon drive the kinds of breakthroughs that could extend life by years or decades. In fact, Kurzweil predicts that by 2029, we may reach that magic moment where every year lived adds more than a year to your lifespan.
Now, that doesn’t mean we’ll all be 25 again overnight. As Justin wisely pointed out during our conversation, it’s not about reversing age but more about freezing it—like a real-life vampire, minus the drama. Your biological aging would slow dramatically, allowing you to live a long, active life… if you’re ready for it.
What It Means for You—Right Now
Here’s the kicker: this won’t be a silver bullet for everyone.
As Kurzweil and other experts note, these breakthroughs will first benefit people in good health and of reasonable means. Translation: If your body isn’t ready to take advantage of these advances, you could miss out—even if the science arrives on time.
This is why your choices today are so important. During our conversation, I shared that I just had my first colonoscopy—one of those fun “over-40” preventative steps doctors now recommend. Lying there in my hospital gown, I felt a deep sense of gratitude. I’ve never been hospitalized before, knock on wood, and I feel healthier at 47 than I did at 27.
Why? Because I’m committed to resetting my “base level health” every year. That means regular checkups, a clean diet, movement every day, smart lifestyle choices. In fact, right after the podcast recording, I laced up my shoes and went for a run—because 93% of your longevity is based on lifestyle choices, not genetics.
That’s right: according to a massive study of over 54 million people, only 7% of lifespan is hereditary. The rest? It’s on us.
Or as the old saying goes:
"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now."
The Bigger Picture
Of course, there are still challenges. Access to these life-extending technologies may initially be limited to those with the means to afford it—at least until prices come down, just like with new drugs or treatments today. And global inequality may widen before it narrows.
But that shouldn’t stop you from taking charge of what’s within your control. You don’t have to be a billionaire to start preparing your body today. Eat clean. Move daily. Sleep well. Stay curious and up-to-date on new advancements. Because if that longevity escape velocity moment comes in 2029—or even in 2039—you want to be in the best possible position to catch that wave.
Or, as I said on the podcast:
"Stay healthy, keep resetting to your base level health, and you’ll have more time to earn more, learn more, and maybe even live long enough to see things none of us can imagine today."
So here’s my question for you:
If you could live to 200 or beyond—in great health and sound mind—would you want to?
And more importantly... what are you doing today to make that possible?
