Your Judgment Is the Product Now

October 04, 2026

You can produce more good work today than you could a year ago, and faster than you ever thought possible.

That sounds like good news, and it is. A capable person can draft an article, build a presentation, sketch a campaign, or analyze a pile of data in minutes. The old production bottleneck is disappearing.

But when everyone can produce more, production alone stops being the advantage.

Your judgment becomes the product.

I hired experience and received output

A while back, I hired an outside creative professional for a brand project. I’m a graphic designer by trade, and I had already used Codex and Claude Code to produce some decent drafts. I wasn’t looking for another person to press the generate button.

I wanted years of industry experience. Pattern recognition. The judgment calls I would miss because this person had spent far more time in that specific world than I had.

What came back was an AI-generated draft.

The use of AI didn’t bother me. I use it every day. The gap was that I had hired someone for their taste and received the part I had already done myself.

That distinction is reshaping service businesses right now.

The output floor keeps rising

The book The Two-Income Trap explains what happened as households moved from one income to two. The extra earning capacity didn’t stay extra for long. Costs rose around it, and two incomes became the new baseline.

AI is creating a similar shift in output. Ten polished drafts used to look extraordinary. Soon, ten drafts will look normal because every competent professional will have access to the same level of production power.

More output still matters. Speed still matters. Quality still matters. Yet none of those separate you for long when every competitor has the same tools.

Your edge lives in what you notice, what you reject, and what you choose to ship.

Taste.

Let AI handle the process while you own the point of view

I write with AI every week. My AI executive assistant drafts proposals, builds decks, and prepares follow-ups. Those systems collapse the time the work takes so I can multiply the time I have for thinking, teaching, and being present with people.

I still decide what sounds like me. I choose the story. I challenge the weak idea. I make the final call on what ships.

That role grows more valuable as the tools get stronger.

If you run a service business, your clients can already get generic output from AI. They hire you for the layer on top of it:

  • The recommendation based on years of experience
  • The risk a generalist wouldn’t see
  • The story that makes the message feel human
  • The decision to remove something competent because it still isn’t right

AI can give you options. Your lived experience tells you which option deserves to exist.

Train your AI on what you believe

The fastest way to improve your output is to give your AI more of you.

Start a personal context document. Write down your goals, preferences, lessons, strong opinions, and the advice you give that most people ignore. Add examples from your calls, emails, and real client work. Record the experiences behind each belief so the system has substance instead of slogans.

Then attach that document to the projects where you create content, analyze decisions, or communicate with clients. Ask the AI to use your context and brand voice, and tell it to challenge anything that sounds generic.

This week, choose one client deliverable before you send it. Add one line only you could write. Name the pattern you’ve seen. Share the lesson you learned the hard way. Make a clear recommendation.

That line carries the value.

The tools will keep changing. Your point of view compounds every time you use it.

Stop playing life on hard mode. Automate your success.
